Insectile Aberration // Insectile Aberration

The Insectile Aberration // Insectile Aberration art card is part of the Innistrad: Midnight Hunt Art Series, released by Wizards of the Coast in 2021. These cards were designed as collectible representations of the set's central horror aesthetic, featuring the full-art, textless illustrations found on the reverse side of the double-faced Delver of Secrets card. This specific item serves as a tribute to the card's enduring popularity in competitive formats, capturing the transformation of a human investigator into an eldritch entity.

The illustration was created by artist Johannes Voss, who utilized a muted, atmospheric color palette to lean into the Gothic horror themes defining the Innistrad plane. By removing the gameplay text and frame, the design emphasizes the visual storytelling of the character's descent into mutation. The piece was well-received by the Magic: The Gathering community for its high-quality foil-stamped signature and its ability to showcase the intricate, unsettling details of Voss's brushwork that are often obscured on smaller, standard-sized gameplay cards.
