Provenance

Where it came from

Irrigation Ditch was released in the Invasion expansion set for Magic: The Gathering in October 2000. As a common land card, it was designed to support the set's central theme of multicolored decks by allowing players to tap it for colorless mana or pay a cost to produce specific colors, helping to balance the mechanics of a complex, multi-faction environment.

The card features artwork by Christopher Rush, one of the most iconic early illustrators for the game. Rush utilized a grounded, naturalistic style for this piece, capturing a rural landscape that emphasizes the utilitarian function of the irrigation system to mirror the card's role as a fundamental resource provider within the game's engine.
