Where it came from
Kai Winn Adami, as depicted in the 'Faithless Leader' card, originates from the Star Trek Customizable Card Game, produced by Decipher, Inc. in the late 1990s. This card appeared within the Deep Space Nine expansion, which sought to translate the complex political maneuvering and religious conflicts of the television series into a tabletop strategy format. The character design draws directly from Louise Fletcher’s portrayal of the Bajoran spiritual leader, focusing on her manipulative political nature during the Dominion War.
The card’s design features a still from the series, capturing the character’s characteristic severe elegance and religious vestments. Within the game mechanics, the 'Faithless Leader' card was categorized as a personnel card with specific attributes reflecting her role as a high-ranking Bajoran official. It was received by players as a polarizing but essential addition to Bajoran-themed decks, balancing her high-level influence against her inherent game-text restrictions that mirrored her controversial legacy on screen.
