Lightning Strike

Lightning Strike is a quintessential red burn spell in the Magic: The Gathering card game, designed to provide players with a versatile tool for dealing direct damage to either creatures or opponents. It belongs to a lineage of red cards dating back to the game's earliest years, functioning as a slightly adjusted version of the iconic Lightning Bolt. By requiring two mana for three damage rather than one, it serves as a balanced staple for the Core Set 2019 environment, allowing players to maintain consistent offensive pressure throughout standard gameplay.

The artwork for this specific printing was created by artist Igor Kieryluk, who focused on capturing the raw, kinetic energy of a controlled magical discharge. His approach emphasizes the visual impact of the spell, utilizing vibrant colors and jagged lines to convey its volatile nature. Upon its release in Core Set 2019, the card was well-received by the competitive community for its utility and reliability, solidifying its role as a fundamental inclusion in red-based aggressive decks during its time in the rotation.
