The black-aligned 'Discard' theme pack, which features this creature, focuses on the mechanical synergy of forcing opponents to discard cards while rewarding the player for those actions.

The card was illustrated by Wisnu Tan, who captured the creature's predatory, shadowy nature through a high-contrast art style typical of contemporary black mana cards.
