Officer

The Star Trek Tokens were introduced in the late 1960s as a promotional item, distributed primarily through retail outlets to capitalize on the surging popularity of the original television series during its initial syndication period. These small, coin-like card inserts served as affordable collectibles for young fans, reflecting the era's merchandising strategy of translating futuristic aesthetic concepts into tangible, mass-marketable goods.

The design of the Officer token, bearing number 14, draws directly from the iconic uniforms and rank insignia established by costume designer William Ware Theiss. The token’s graphic treatment, characterized by utilitarian typography and a focus on the show's distinct visual vocabulary, was intended to evoke the bridge of the USS Enterprise. While these tokens were produced as novelty items rather than high-end memorabilia, they have since gained historical significance as markers of the nascent Star Trek fandom.
