Oko, Lorwyn Liege and his counterpart, Shadowmoor Scion, originated in the Lorwyn Eclipsed expansion, a conceptual set designed to explore the shifting balance between the sunny, high-fantasy Lorwyn plane and its darker reflection, Shadowmoor. The cards were designed as a dual-sided tribute to the duality of the plane, intended to showcase the transformation of characters as the world transitioned through the Great Aurora. The artistic direction prioritized a stark contrast in color palettes, utilizing bright, ethereal gold tones for the Lorwyn face and muted, brooding violets for the Shadowmoor side.
