Where it came from
Pollen-Shield Hare // Hare Raising was released as part of the Wilds of Eldraine set in 2023, drawing on the expansion's core theme of a storybook-inspired fantasy world. The card features a double-sided design typical of modern Magic: The Gathering mechanics, allowing the permanent to function as both a creature and an enchantment. This specific promo version was distributed as a special variant to celebrate the set's release, highlighting the whimsical, high-fantasy aesthetic that defines the Eldraine plane.
The artwork and design were crafted to capture the essence of a folklore-influenced world, utilizing a vibrant, illustrative style that emphasizes the card's woodland character. The design team focused on creating versatile gameplay interactions that reflect the Hare's dual nature as a guardian and a catalyst for creature tokens. Upon release, the card was well-received by players for its efficiency in token-focused archetypes and its contribution to the set's fairy-tale visual identity.
