Sage of Lat-Nam

Sage of Lat-Nam was first introduced in the Antiquities expansion in 1994, a set designed to flesh out the lore of the Brothers' War. The card depicts a scholar from the coastal city of Lat-Nam, known for its focus on historical research and the study of ancient artifacts. The Eighth Edition printing, released in 2003, marked the first time the card featured the modern card frame, which was implemented to improve readability and revitalize the aesthetic of the core set.

The artwork for this version was produced by Dan Frazier, a veteran illustrator whose work defined the early visual language of the game. Frazier sought to capture the contemplative nature of the character, balancing the mechanical utility of the card—which allows players to sacrifice artifacts for card draw—with a grounded, academic portrait. While the card is a functional niche piece rather than a competitive staple, it remains a recognized example of the game's long-standing tradition of rewarding resource management through flavor-rich character designs.
