Spell Queller was originally introduced in the 2016 Magic: The Gathering set Eldritch Moon, designed to anchor the aggressive tempo strategies within the Standard format. It represents a pivot point in the lore of the Innistrad plane, where the angelic guardian Avacyn has been corrupted, forcing players to confront both otherworldly horrors and the tragic failure of their once-divine protectors.
