Provenance

Where it came from

Warp World was first introduced in the Ravnica: City of Guilds expansion in 2005 before being reprinted as part of the Tenth Edition core set in 2007. Designed by the Magic: The Gathering R&D team, the card was intended to capture the chaotic, high-variance nature of red mana, creating a board state where every permanent on the battlefield is shuffled into its owner's library and replaced with an equal number of cards drawn from the top. It is a quintessential example of a 'big mana' spell that functions as a disruptive reset button.

The card’s illustration was crafted by artist Kev Walker, who utilized a vivid, kinetic style to represent the planar distortion described in the spell’s mechanics. Upon its release, Warp World was received by players as a polarizing card; while it was often viewed as a logistical challenge due to the time required to resolve its effects in tournament play, it simultaneously gained a dedicated following among casual and Commander players for its ability to produce unpredictable and memorable game outcomes.
