3x3 Eyes: Survivor of the Forest of Mythical Beasts

3x3 Eyes: Survivor of the Forest of Mythical Beasts is a spin-off volume derived from the expansive 3x3 Eyes manga series created by Yuzo Takada. The original series, which began serialization in 1987, became a landmark work in the dark fantasy and mythological manga genres, blending elements of Indian and Tibetan folklore with modern settings. This specific volume serves to broaden the established universe by focusing on niche narratives that flesh out the intricate lore of the three-eyed Sanjiyan Unkara and their guardians.

Takada's work is widely recognized for its detailed character designs and its ability to weave complex, supernatural plots into a grounded contemporary framework. This volume maintains the author's distinct aesthetic, characterized by high-contrast ink work and expressive monster designs. Upon its release, it was received as a welcome expansion for long-term readers of the franchise, serving as a testament to the enduring popularity of Takada’s world-building throughout the 1990s and into the early 2000s.
