Where it came from
7 Seeds was created by the acclaimed mangaka Yumi Tamura and began its serialization in 2001. Developed against the backdrop of the post-apocalyptic survival genre, the series was conceived as an epic narrative focusing on groups of youths cryogenically frozen to ensure the survival of humanity following a global meteor strike. The design philosophy behind the work prioritizes character-driven drama and the harsh realities of nature, reflecting Tamura's signature ability to weave complex, long-form interpersonal relationships into high-stakes speculative fiction.
Upon its release, the series was received with critical acclaim, eventually earning the prestigious Shogakukan Manga Award for the shojo category in 2007. It is widely regarded for its ambitious world-building and the emotional depth of its ensemble cast, distinguishing itself from typical survival narratives of the era. The manga spans 35 volumes and has remained a highly influential staple in josei and shojo manga, celebrated for its mature exploration of resilience and the human spirit.
