A Romany of the Snows: Second Series of an Adventurer of the North Being a Continuation of Pierre and His People and the Latest Existing Records of Pretty Pierre (Classic Reprint)

A Romany of the Snows was originally published in 1896 by Sir Gilbert Parker, a Canadian-born British novelist who gained significant acclaim for his romantic portrayals of life in the Canadian Northwest. This collection of short stories serves as a direct sequel to his earlier success, Pierre and His People, further expanding on the character of Pretty Pierre. The stories were written during a period of intense interest in imperial adventure literature, capturing the rugged, often idealized frontier spirit that defined Parker's literary output during the late Victorian era.

The specific edition referenced here is a modern reprint, produced as part of an effort to preserve public domain works for contemporary readers and academic study. Parker’s work was noted for its lyrical, occasionally melodramatic prose and its attempt to translate the cultural intersections of indigenous and settler life in northern Canada into accessible fiction. While his reputation has fluctuated in the decades since, his role as a key architect of the 'Northern' genre of fiction remains a subject of study for historians of Canadian colonial literature.
