Where it came from
A Story of Brother and Sister with Cursed Tradition is a manga work by Iwaaki Hitoshi, known for his ability to weave dark, psychological tension into unconventional narratives. Published in the early stages of his career, the work explores themes of family legacy and the supernatural through a somber, character-focused lens that foreshadows the mature storytelling techniques he would later refine in acclaimed works like Parasyte.
The aesthetic of this volume reflects the minimalist and grounded style characteristic of Iwaaki’s early period. Rather than relying on ornate spectacle, the design prioritizes a haunting atmosphere and precise, stark paneling to convey the weight of the familial curse. It was received by readers as a poignant example of the author's early experimentation with genre conventions, appealing to those interested in the artistic evolution of one of manga's more philosophical writers.
