Adreßbuch Mannheim: 1979/80

The Adreßbuch Mannheim: 1979/80 serves as a vital historical record of the city of Mannheim during the late twentieth century. Produced by the local directory publishers, these volumes were created to function as essential reference tools for residents, businesses, and government administration, providing a snapshot of the city's inhabitants and commercial landscape at the time. Such directories were staples of West German municipal life, designed for efficient communication and demographic tracking in an era before digital databases became the standard for urban management.

The design of the 1979/80 edition reflects the functional, utilitarian aesthetic characteristic of postwar German administrative print media. The layout prioritized readability and alphabetical categorization, ensuring that citizens and commercial entities could be located quickly. While these books were mass-produced for practical utility rather than artistic expression, they are now regarded by historians and genealogists as valuable primary sources that capture the social, residential, and industrial composition of Mannheim during a specific transitional period in the region's development.
