After Hours

After Hours, a manga series by Nishio Yuhta, was serialized in the seinen magazine Hibana between 2013 and 2016. The story follows Emi, a young woman who finds herself adrift in life until she meets Kei, a charismatic DJ who introduces her to the vibrant and gritty nightlife of Tokyo. The work is widely regarded for its grounded, atmospheric depiction of the underground music scene, capturing the fleeting intensity of youth and the complexities of finding one's place in a sprawling urban environment.

Nishio Yuhta’s aesthetic approach is characterized by a distinctive, slightly loose linework that prioritizes emotional resonance and movement over polished precision. His design choices reflect a desire to portray the authentic, often unglamorous reality of club culture rather than a stylized version of it. The series was well-received by readers for its mature handling of interpersonal relationships and its evocative, melancholic tone, eventually finding a dedicated international audience through its translation and release in the West.
