Al de leerredenen van Dr. D. Chantepie de la Saussaye

Daniel Chantepie de la Saussaye was a prominent 19th-century Dutch theologian and a pivotal figure in the Ethische richting, a movement that sought to bridge the gap between orthodox Reformed faith and modern scientific developments. These collected sermons reflect his focus on the interior, subjective experience of faith, emphasizing a personal relationship with the divine over rigid dogma. The volumes serve as a cornerstone of Dutch theological literature from the mid-to-late 1800s, documenting his influential preaching style characterized by intellectual depth and pietistic intensity.

The publication of his collected sermons was a significant undertaking within the academic and clerical circles of the Netherlands, intended to preserve the legacy of his lectureship and pastoral influence. Because the original works were delivered as oral addresses across various congregations, the printed collections were curated to capture the nuanced rhetorical approach Chantepie de la Saussaye utilized to challenge the secularizing trends of his time. The series remains an essential reference for historians studying the intersection of Dutch Protestantism and modern European philosophy.
