Algemeen politieblad van het koningrijk der Nederlanden

The Algemeen politieblad van het koningrijk der Nederlanden, or General Police Gazette of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, was established in the mid-19th century as an official publication intended to facilitate communication between law enforcement agencies across the country. It was designed to serve as a central repository for the dissemination of information regarding criminal investigations, missing persons, and stolen property. By consolidating these reports into a formal printed volume, the Dutch authorities aimed to create a more cohesive and efficient national strategy for policing in an era of expanding infrastructure and growing state bureaucracy.

The publication's aesthetic and structural design reflects the austere, functionalist approach typical of 19th-century governmental record-keeping. The layout was curated to prioritize clarity and accessibility for officials, often utilizing standardized typography and categorical formatting that could be easily referenced by local constabularies. While it was never intended for a popular audience, it garnered a reputation among researchers and historians as an essential primary source for understanding the social history of crime and the evolution of the Dutch criminal justice system throughout the modern era.
