Ally of Justice

Ally of Justice, or Seigi no Mikata, was originally written and illustrated by Hijiri Chiaki and serialized in the magazine Chorus beginning in 2006. The series explores the strained relationship between Yoko, a self-centered and manipulative older sister, and her younger sibling Makiko, who finds herself coerced into serving Yoko’s whims. The work is noted for its comedic take on the toxic family dynamic, blending dark humor with the domestic trials of its protagonists.

The narrative design reflects Chiaki's talent for subverting shojo manga tropes, framing the 'villainous' older sister as a force of nature that forces the protagonist to mature. Upon its release, the series was well-regarded for its sharp characterization and pacing, eventually leading to a live-action television adaptation in 2008. The print volumes remain a hallmark of the slice-of-life comedy genre from that era of manga production.
