Ame to Kimi to (Pre-Serialization)

Ame to Kimi to originated as a series of short, atmospheric vignettes shared by mangaka Nikaidou Kou on social media platforms, specifically Twitter. These initial sketches were created as a personal project to capture the quiet, humorous bond between a solitary woman and a mysterious, cat-like creature she adopts during a rainy season. The pre-serialization work gained significant organic traction due to its emotive, minimalist art style and relatable depiction of domestic companionship, which ultimately prompted a formal transition into a serialized publication.

Nikaidou Kou designed the work with a focus on slice-of-life intimacy, emphasizing the visual contrast between the protagonist's structured daily routine and the unpredictable, often surreal behavior of her non-verbal companion. By stripping away complex lore in favor of character-driven interactions, the pre-serialization phase established a distinct visual language that relied on subtle facial expressions and pacing. The project was well-received by online readers for its gentle tone, leading to a successful commercial expansion that maintained the aesthetic integrity of these early digital uploads.
