American journal of urology and sexology

The American Journal of Urology and Sexology emerged in the early 20th century as a medical trade publication reflecting the growing professionalization of urological science and the burgeoning, often controversial, study of human sexuality in the United States. It served as a venue for physicians to exchange clinical observations, surgical techniques, and emerging sociological theories, mirroring the era's clinical fascination with classifying sexual behaviors within a medical framework.

The editorial vision focused on bridging the gap between rigorous anatomical study and the emerging psychoanalytic interest in sexual function and dysfunction. Its aesthetic and content were typical of medical journals from the period, favoring dense, scholarly prose and clinical illustrations, reflecting a time when such topics were transitioning from clandestine literature to subjects of serious, if cautious, academic inquiry.
