Ano Hana ga Saku Oka de, Kimi to Mata Deaetara.

Originally published as a web novel on the Japanese user-generated content platform Shōsetsuka ni Narō in 2016, Shiomi Natsue’s story gained significant traction for its poignant exploration of time travel and historical memory. The narrative follows a modern-day high school girl who is transported back to 1945, where she encounters a kamikaze pilot during the final days of the Pacific War. The work explores the tension between personal romance and the grim reality of wartime nationalism, ultimately serving as an anti-war sentiment piece that resonated deeply with younger Japanese readers concerned with themes of sacrifice and historical legacy.

The physical publication of the work, released by Starts Publishing under their Berry's Bunko imprint, features cover art that emphasizes the dreamlike, bittersweet atmosphere of the protagonist's journey. Upon its release, the novel was praised for its emotional accessibility, leading to a successful manga adaptation and eventually a major live-action film in 2023. Critics noted that the design of the book packaging—often utilizing soft, nostalgic color palettes—was instrumental in marketing the title as a quintessential 'tear-jerker' novel, helping it secure a place as a staple of contemporary Japanese young adult literature.
