Where it came from
Published by ASCII Media Works under their Dengeki Bunko imprint, 'Hikaru ga Chikyuu ni Ita Koro......'—often referred to as 'Aoi' by fans—began serialization in 2010. Mizuki Nomura created the series following the success of her earlier work, 'Bungaku Shoujo.' The narrative blends elements of high school drama with supernatural themes, drawing heavy inspiration from 'The Tale of Genji,' with the protagonist acting as a spiritual successor to the historical figure Hikaru Genji.
The illustrations for the series were provided by the artist Miho Takeoka, who maintained a long-standing collaboration with Nomura. Takeoka's ethereal, watercolor-esque aesthetic was chosen to emphasize the melancholic and nostalgic tone of the story. Upon its release, the series was well-received within the light novel community for its sophisticated prose style and emotional depth, standing out among more conventional genre tropes.
