Aoki Ookami: Chihate Umi Tsukiru Made

Aoki Ookami: Chihate Umi Tsukiru Made is a historical novel authored by Seiichi Morimura, first published in the 1980s. The work serves as a dramatic literary interpretation of the life of Genghis Khan, chronicling his rise from a nomadic tribesman to the architect of a vast empire. Morimura, widely known for his social commentary and investigative literature, moved into historical fiction with this project, intending to portray the conqueror through a lens of psychological complexity and geopolitical transformation.

The narrative was later adapted into a notable 2007 feature film, which bolstered the reach of the original text. As a writer, Morimura focused on the brutality of conquest balanced against the personal isolation of the protagonist, aiming to humanize a figure often viewed primarily through a mythic or villainous lens. The work is considered a distinct entry in the canon of Japanese historical fiction, reflecting the era's fascination with epic biography and cross-cultural historical exploration.
