Apocalypse Zero

Apocalypse Zero, known in Japan as Kakugo no Susume, was created by mangaka Yamaguchi Takayuki and serialized in Weekly Shonen Champion beginning in the mid-1990s. The series emerged during a period of intense experimentation in the seinen and shonen demographics, blending visceral body horror with the tropes of traditional heroic tokusatsu narratives. Yamaguchi designed the protagonist’s suit—the Fortified Armor—to serve as a literal manifestation of the wearer's physical and psychological torment, distinguishing the work from standard superpower manga of the era.

The narrative is set in a post-apocalyptic Tokyo where the protagonist, Kakugo, is tasked with combating monstrous entities while grappling with his father's brutal legacy.
