Where it came from
APPLE is a collection of one-shot manga stories written by Kaiu Shirai, who is best known for his work on The Promised Neverland. This anthology was produced to showcase Shirai's versatility as a writer, bringing together various short stories he penned in collaboration with different artists before and during his rise to mainstream prominence. The volume serves as a curated retrospective of his early creative explorations, emphasizing his penchant for suspense, psychological tension, and intricate world-building.
The design and artistic direction of the volume are defined by the stylistic shifts between each contributing illustrator, reflecting the diverse narratives contained within. Each story was originally published in various manga magazines, and their compilation into a single volume was intended to highlight the breadth of Shirai’s imagination.
