Aries

Aries was serialized in the monthly shoujo magazine LaLa from 1987 to 1991, emerging during a period when Japanese manga was heavily exploring themes of mythology and high-concept fantasy. Created by mangaka Fuyuki Rurika, the series follows the journey of a young woman who travels to ancient Greece, integrating Hellenic myths with the shoujo genre's focus on interpersonal drama and internal growth. The work is widely regarded as a signature example of the late eighties aesthetic in manga, characterized by flowing lines and an emphasis on romanticized, ethereal character designs.

Fuyuki Rurika crafted Aries with a deliberate focus on celestial motifs and psychological depth, aiming to weave the personalities of the zodiac signs into the narrative structure of the characters. Upon its release, the series found a dedicated audience among readers drawn to its blend of historical fantasy and character-driven storytelling. It remains a notable title in the history of the Hakusensha publishing catalog, reflecting the stylistic trends that defined the transition from the mid-eighties to the early nineties in manga illustration.
