Arthur Cravan: poète et boxeur

This volume serves as a critical catalog produced by Galerie 1900-2000 in Paris, documenting the multifaceted life and work of Arthur Cravan. Cravan, born Fabian Avenarius Lloyd, was a poet, art critic, and professional boxer whose provocative public appearances and anti-establishment manifestos made him a legendary precursor to the Dadaist movement. The book was published to provide a definitive archival record of his ephemeral career, gathering rare manuscripts, photographs, and ephemera that capture his chaotic and brilliant tenure in the early twentieth-century Parisian avant-garde.

The publication reflects the gallery's commitment to preserving the history of Dada and Surrealism. By compiling primary source materials and historical context, the editors aimed to synthesize Cravan's disparate identities as both a refined writer and a pugilist. The work is regarded as a foundational reference for scholars of modernism, offering a structured look at a figure who intentionally resisted documentation during his own lifetime, thereby bridging the gap between his mythic status and his concrete artistic contributions.
