Aru Hi Totsuzen Do-S Ouji no Tsuma ni Narimashita

Aru Hi Totsuzen Do-S Ouji no Tsuma ni Narimashita, translated as One Day, I Suddenly Became the Wife of a Sadistic Prince, emerged as a contribution to the popular shojo and josei subgenre of romance manga centering on sudden, high-stakes arranged marriages. Written and illustrated by Asato, the series follows the classic trope of a protagonist finding themselves thrust into a domestic situation with a difficult, cold, or overbearing partner, playing on the tension between societal expectations and burgeoning personal affection.

The series reflects the late 2010s trend of web-to-print manga publishing, where digital serializations were collected into tankobon volumes to meet demand from readers seeking escapist romantic narratives. Asato’s design choices focus on the expressive, trope-heavy character archetypes standard to the genre, emphasizing the 'Do-S' (extreme sadist) personality of the lead male to drive the narrative conflict. Reception has been largely confined to niche audiences interested in the specific melodramatic beats typical of this subset of Japanese romantic comics.
