Where it came from
As the Witch Says is a manga series created by the artist known as Easel, falling into the contemporary fantasy and slice-of-life genres. It was developed within the competitive landscape of Japanese manga publishing, focusing on the whimsical and often poignant interactions between magical figures and ordinary life. The narrative style reflects a desire to blend lighthearted character dynamics with a distinct visual aesthetic that prioritizes soft lines and expressive, emotive character designs.
The reception of the work has been centered on its art style and the thematic exploration of witchcraft as a metaphor for personal growth. Easel sought to craft an atmosphere that feels both grounded and enchanting, moving away from high-stakes action to prioritize character intimacy. It is regarded as a niche but well-regarded title among enthusiasts of indie-adjacent manga, praised primarily for its gentle pacing and the illustrator's consistent approach to building a self-contained, cozy supernatural world.
