ASTROID

Astroid is a collection of short-form science fiction manga by Koike Keiichi, originally serialized in various Japanese alternative magazines before being compiled into a single volume. Published in the early 2000s, the work reflects the artist's fascination with the intersections of human consciousness, technology, and surrealism. Koike developed these stories during a period of prolific experimentation in seinen manga, focusing on sparse dialogue and highly detailed, psychedelic line work to convey existential themes.

The design of the collection centers on Koike’s signature minimalist aesthetic, which draws heavily from the influence of 1960s and 70s science fiction cinema and graphic design. By stripping away traditional exposition, the artist aimed to immerse the reader in a disorienting, dreamlike environment. Upon its release, the volume was noted by critics for its sophisticated visual language, solidifying Koike's reputation as a distinct voice in non-traditional manga that leans more toward fine art than conventional narrative structure.
