Atsui Hibi

Atsui Hibi, or Hot Days, is an early short story collection by the acclaimed mangaka Midorikawa Yuki, released in the early 2000s. It represents a formative period in her career, capturing the quiet, emotive, and atmospheric storytelling style that would later define her global success with works like Natsume's Book of Friends. The stories are characterized by a gentle focus on human connections and supernatural undertones, serving as a foundational exploration of the themes of loneliness and memory that remain central to her body of work.

The design and artistic approach within this collection reflect the delicate, ethereal line work that Midorikawa is known for. Her illustrations emphasize soft focus and expressive character silhouettes, aiming to evoke a sense of nostalgia rather than traditional action-oriented narrative tropes. Upon its initial release, the collection was well-received by readers of shoujo manga, who appreciated its introspective tone and its departure from the more flamboyant trends of the era, establishing Midorikawa as a distinct voice in character-driven storytelling.
