Where it came from
Aurion: Legacy of the Kori-Odan originated as a vision by Cameroonian developer Madiba Olivier, who sought to create a high-fantasy role-playing game that infused traditional African mythology with the mechanics of the classic Japanese RPG genre. Developed by Kiro'o Games, the project was born out of a desire to see African cultural aesthetics represented in the global interactive entertainment landscape, moving beyond typical Western or Eurocentric fantasy tropes.
The art and narrative design center on the protagonist Enzo Kori-Odan, utilizing a hand-drawn visual style that blends vibrant, fluid character designs with world-building inspired by Central African folklore. Upon its release, the title received significant international attention as the first commercial professional video game produced in Cameroon, garnering praise for its unique cultural synthesis and ambitious scope, which established a foundational precedent for the independent African game development industry.
