Bestiarius the Beastfighter

Bestiarius the Beastfighter was created by mangaka Masasumi Kakizaki and serialized starting in 2011, initially appearing in Shogakukan's Weekly Shonen Sunday before moving to other publications. Set in the waning years of the Roman Empire, the series reimagines the gladiatorial arenas as stages for combat not just between men, but between elite warriors and mythical creatures such as wyverns, cyclopes, and minotaurs. Kakizaki, known for his cinematic drafting style and high-contrast ink work, intended the series to be a dark, sprawling epic that juxtaposes the cruelty of imperial spectacle with the unlikely bonds formed between captive humans and beasts.
