Between Two Question Marks

Between Two Question Marks is a contemplative graphic work by the South Korean creator Hyesup, known for a minimalist aesthetic that bridges the gap between traditional manhwa and abstract visual storytelling. The volume emerged during a period of shifting trends in the independent Korean publishing scene, where creators began prioritizing atmospheric, non-linear narratives over conventional serialised tropes. By stripping away complex plot devices in favor of metaphorical imagery, Hyesup sought to capture the quiet, internal ambiguities of the human experience.

The design of the volume reflects a deliberate commitment to physical form, utilizing tactile paper stocks and negative space to mirror the themes within its pages. Critics have often noted that the work functions more as a meditative object than a standard narrative book, with Hyesup’s clean, fluid linework serving as a vessel for philosophical questioning. Upon its release, the volume garnered praise within independent artistic circles for its restraint and its ability to evoke profound emotional responses through sparse, deliberate visual compositions.
