Bijdrage tot het medegedeelde in het Tijdschrift voor geschiedenis, oudheden en statistiek van Utrecht 1836, no. 1 bl. 1-40, onder het opschrift: "De graaf van Leicester in Utrecht

This scholarly contribution was written by Willem Cornelis Ackersdijk and published in 1836 within the Tijdschrift voor geschiedenis, oudheden en statistiek van Utrecht. The text serves as a historical examination of the period when Robert Dudley, the Earl of Leicester, governed the Netherlands on behalf of Queen Elizabeth I. It was produced during a time of renewed interest in Dutch national historiography, specifically focusing on the complex political dynamics between the United Provinces and their English allies during the late 16th century.

Ackersdijk, an educator and historian associated with the Utrecht Gymnasium, composed this piece to provide a detailed analysis of Leicester's time in Utrecht. His work was intended to clarify the administrative and social impact of the Earl’s residency, relying on archival documents to disentangle local myths from documented events. The text is characteristic of 19th-century Dutch regional historical writing, which favored rigorous, source-based analysis intended for an audience of academics, local officials, and enthusiasts of regional antiquities.
