Where it came from
Biohazard 3 Last Escape, written and illustrated by Li Zhongxing, emerged from the prolific Hong Kong manhua industry during the late 1990s. This unauthorized adaptation was produced to capitalize on the immense popularity of Capcom’s Resident Evil 3: Nemesis, taking advantage of the region's robust market for game-inspired comics that often existed in a legal gray area regarding international intellectual property rights.
The art style is characterized by the high-contrast, kinetic aesthetic common to period-appropriate manhua, blending traditional panel layouts with exaggerated character designs intended to mimic the cinematic horror of the source material. While it is regarded by modern enthusiasts primarily as a historical curiosity and an example of the unique licensing landscape in Hong Kong publishing at the time, it remains a notable artifact for collectors interested in the global cultural footprint of the Resident Evil franchise.
