BLOOD-C

BLOOD-C was produced as a collaborative multimedia project between the animation studio Production I.G and the artist collective CLAMP, released in 2011. The manga adaptation, illustrated by Kotone Ranmaru, was serialized in Shōnen Ace shortly thereafter to expand upon the narrative of the anime series. The story follows Saya Kisaragi, a seemingly ordinary high school student who secretly hunts monsters known as the Elder Bairns, blending slice-of-life tropes with extreme horror and surreal psychological elements.

The design of the manga reflects the distinct aesthetic influence of CLAMP, characterized by elegant, flowing lines and an emphasis on visual atmosphere. Kotone Ranmaru’s interpretation of the source material was lauded for its ability to transition the show's visceral, high-stakes action into static panels while maintaining the central themes of isolation and deception. Critics and fans generally received the work as a dark, stylistic companion piece that successfully captures the jarring shifts in tone that defined the original animation.
