Where it came from
The Boichi Original SF Short Story Collection compiles various standalone science fiction narratives penned and illustrated by the South Korean-born mangaka Boichi. Known for his hyper-realistic anatomical style and intricate cross-hatching, Boichi created these works to explore speculative themes ranging from post-apocalyptic survival to existential transhumanism. These stories serve as a window into his early experimentation with narrative pacing and his transition into the highly polished aesthetic that later defined his work on major series like Dr. Stone.
The collection was released to offer readers a cohesive look at Boichi's versatility outside the constraints of long-running serials. The design reflects his signature dramatic perspective shifts and deep focus on lighting, emphasizing the raw emotion of his characters amidst stark, science-fiction landscapes. It has been received by fans and critics alike as an essential study of his stylistic evolution, showcasing his ability to blend gritty action with philosophical undertones.
