Calendario generale del Regno d'Italia

The Calendario generale del Regno d'Italia was published annually by the Italian Ministry of the Interior following the unification of Italy. Its primary purpose was to serve as an official administrative directory, detailing the structure of the state, the composition of the royal court, and the hierarchy of the civil, military, and ecclesiastical bureaucracies. These volumes functioned as essential reference tools for government officials, diplomats, and scholars who required precise information on the shifting institutional landscape of the burgeoning Italian state.

The design of these volumes reflected the formal aesthetic of late 19th and early 20th-century state publications, prioritizing clarity and exhaustive categorization over decorative flourishes. Compiled by government departments, the work prioritized institutional accuracy and standardized reporting to reflect the administrative rigor of the kingdom. While rarely noted for artistic innovation, the series is highly regarded today by historians for its consistent documentation of the Italian political and social elite throughout the era.
