Caravan Kidd

Caravan Kidd is a science fiction manga series created by mangaka Manabe Jouji, originally serialized in the late 1980s. Emerging during a period when high-energy, post-apocalyptic adventure narratives were gaining traction in Japan, the work follows a young woman named Babo and her mechanical companion, Wataru, as they navigate a wasteland filled with remnants of advanced technology. The setting captures a blend of desert nomad aesthetics and retro-futuristic mechanical design.

Manabe Jouji designed the series with a focus on dynamic action sequences and expressive character art, which became a hallmark of his style. The work was influenced by the pervasive interest in cyberpunk and mecha genres prevalent in that era of manga. Upon its release, Caravan Kidd was noted for its distinct visual identity and eventually led to the production of a two-part original video animation, which helped cement its status as a notable example of late-80s cult science fiction manga.
