Catalog of Copyright Entries. Part 1. [C] Group 3. Dramatic Composition and Motion Pictures. New Series

The Catalog of Copyright Entries serves as the primary bibliographic record for all materials registered for copyright in the United States. This specific iteration, Part 1, Group 3, was published by the Library of Congress Copyright Office during the early-to-mid 20th century to track the burgeoning field of dramatic compositions and motion pictures. It provided a centralized, authoritative index for legal professionals, scholars, and industry figures to verify intellectual property rights and secure legal protections for their creative works during a transformative era of American entertainment.

The design of these catalogs prioritizes utility and archival integrity, reflecting the administrative mandates of the Library of Congress. Produced with austere, standardized formatting, the volumes were intended to be permanent, accessible references rather than aesthetic objects. They were received primarily as essential bureaucratic tools, valued by researchers and legal historians for their meticulous documentation of the creative output of the era, rather than for the design choices of the Government Printing Office officials who oversaw their compilation.
