Catalogue des bibliothe`ques de laisse es par feu messieurs J. Duymaer van Twist et d'un docteur en the ologie: dont la vente se fera lundi 12 Mars 1877 et jours suivants ... dans la maison de E.J. Brill

This catalogue was published in 1877 to facilitate the public auction of two significant private libraries held in the Netherlands. The primary collection belonged to the estate of Albertus Jacobus Duymaer van Twist, a prominent Dutch colonial administrator who served as the Governor-General of the Dutch East Indies from 1851 to 1856. Following his death, the auction was organized to disperse his extensive personal collection, which was combined with the library of an anonymous theologian to attract a broader range of academic and bibliophilic buyers.

The sale was hosted by the renowned E.J. Brill, a publishing house and bookseller based in Leiden that remains active today. The catalogue serves as a testament to the scholarly culture of 19th-century Dutch elites, documenting the specific volumes, historical texts, and theological tracts preserved by these men. As a record of a Dutch colonial-era estate sale, the document provides modern researchers with a clear window into the reading habits, intellectual interests, and social standing of the mid-to-late Victorian era in the Netherlands.
