Where it came from
Chikyuu Bouei Kigyou Dai-Guard, also known as Earth Defense Enterprise Dai-Guard, originated as an original anime series produced by Xebec that premiered in 1999. The narrative centers on a private corporation that maintains a giant robot, the Dai-Guard, as a commercial asset rather than a military tool, reflecting a satirical take on the super robot genre by highlighting the bureaucratic and logistical hurdles of corporate life during a planetary crisis.
The series concept was brought to life through the direction of Seiji Mizushima and the character designs of Kanno Hiroshi, who sought to blend traditional mecha tropes with the grounded, mundane reality of an office environment. This unique approach, which focused as much on public relations and internal politics as it did on giant monster combat, was well-received for its ingenuity and remains a notable entry in late-nineties science fiction animation.
