Children's Books by René Guillot: A Bibliography

This bibliography was compiled by Vivien Rose Ludwin to provide a comprehensive catalog of the literary works of René Guillot, a prominent French author of children's literature known primarily for his tales set in Africa. Published as a scholarly reference, the volume reflects the growing academic interest in Guillot’s oeuvre during the latter half of the 20th century, seeking to document the complex publishing history and various editions of a body of work that often drew on the author's experiences living in Senegal.

The design of the work follows the conventions of formal academic bibliography, prioritizing clarity and ease of research for librarians, collectors, and scholars. By organizing Guillot’s diverse contributions to children's literature—ranging from adventure novels to animal stories—Ludwin aimed to preserve the legacy of a writer whose work was both highly decorated, notably receiving the Hans Christian Andersen Award in 1964, and sometimes subject to critical reappraisal due to the colonial perspectives present in his writing.
