Chiyu Mahou no Machigatta Tsukaikata ~Senjou wo Kakeru Kaifuku Youin~, known in English as The Wrong Way to Use Healing Magic, originated as a web novel serialized by Kurokata on the user-generated site Shousetsuka ni Narou starting in 2014. The narrative follows Usato, an ordinary high school student who is inadvertently summoned to another world alongside two classmates and discovers a unique, albeit grueling, aptitude for healing magic. Its transition to a light novel series under the Media Factory label allowed for the refinement of the character dynamics and the inclusion of detailed illustrations by KeG, which helped anchor the series' blend of comedic training montages and high-stakes fantasy combat.

The series received a manga adaptation illustrated by Reki Kugayama, which began serialization in Kadokawa's Comp Ace magazine in 2017. This adaptation is credited with expanding the franchise's reach by visually emphasizing the contrast between the protagonist's initially unassuming appearance and the intense physical conditioning he undergoes under the guidance of the Rose, the captain of the Rescue Team.
