Coffee Moon

Coffee Moon is a science fiction manga series created by mangaka Bota Mochito, serialized in Monthly Comic Beam starting in 2020. The narrative is set in a world where the sun has ceased to set, resulting in an environment of eternal daylight that has profoundly impacted human civilization and the passage of time. The story follows a young protagonist navigating this static, high-contrast landscape, blending atmospheric world-building with themes of isolation and the search for meaning in a perpetually illuminated reality.

Bota Mochito’s visual approach for the series relies on stark, minimalist aesthetics that reflect the constant exposure of the setting. The character designs and background art are crafted to emphasize the oppressive, unchanging nature of the environment, often utilizing deep shadows and light play to convey mood. Upon its release, the work was noted for its unique premise and its meditative, slow-burn pacing, positioning it as a distinct entry within the seinen manga genre that favors contemplative storytelling over traditional action-oriented tropes.
