Where it came from
Cookie Run: Math Basics is a series of educational books derived from the globally popular Cookie Run mobile game franchise developed by Devsisters. Published to engage young readers with curriculum-based mathematics, the series repurposes the game's recognizable cast of anthropomorphic cookies—such as GingerBrave and Strawberry Cookie—to illustrate algebraic and arithmetic concepts. The books were produced to capitalize on the characters' high levels of brand recognition in South Korea, turning the act of learning into a familiar interaction with the game's established lore.
The series features storytelling and pedagogical framing by Jo Joo-Hee, an author known for adapting popular media into accessible reading formats. The design emphasizes a vibrant, manga-inspired visual aesthetic consistent with the digital game, utilizing color-coded problems and character-driven scenarios to maintain reader interest. Upon its release, the series was received primarily as a supplementary educational tool, praised for its success in bridging the gap between entertainment-focused IP and classroom instruction for primary school students.
