The Dahlmann-Waitz bibliography originated in the mid-19th century as a foundational project by historian Friedrich Christoph Dahlmann. Initially conceived as a guide to primary sources for German history, it aimed to provide scholars with a systematic, exhaustive index of literature and archival materials.
